Company Snapshot: Continuing the family business of the oldest on-going hand calligraphy studio in the country, we opened Emerald Invitations in 2003 to give brides and grooms a unique wedding invitation experience. Emerald Invitations began as a reseller of pre-printed invitations but through the years we have grown and evolved into a custom-design invitation shop. Our primary business is the design and production of wedding invitations as well as envelope addressing with hand and machine calligraphy, however we also create designs for bridal and baby showers, birthdays, holiday cards, anniversaries, bar/bat mitzvahs and graduations.

Emerald Invitations has been Couple’s Choice Award winners on Wedding Wire for 10 years running and have over 250 five star reviews.

Now Chris and Julie manage the day to day business at the Quincy location while Michael resides in South Carolina and recently opened Emerald’s second location in Bluffton, SC.

QUICK Q&A:

What is unique about your business? Our business is unique because we have invitations for any budget and designs for any theme. We have invitations as low as $3.00 and invitations as high as $25.00 and everything in between. With our custom designs our couples not only see digital proofs, but we’ll also print a sample of their invitation for them to see before we complete full production. Since the majority of what we print is custom we are always open to new ideas to keep up with the ever-changing trends and love when couples bring us new styles to create for them.

How have you pivoted given the current circumstances? COVID-19 sure threw a wrench in so many weddings this year! We had so many couples make the difficult decision to postpone their wedding and many had already sent out their invitations. We quickly helped any couple in need by printing a post card they could mail out to their guests stating that their wedding had been postponed. We had quite a few invitations partially designed and were put on hold so they could reschedule their wedding. We also gave couples the option of having a virtual appointment while everything was shut down so they could still start the process of designing their invitations or save the dates.

What motivates you? We work hard to ensure each invitation is designed and executed with the highest quality craftsmanship and reflects each couple’s style and personality. We have had brides cry, jump up and down and on occasion give us a big hug because they love how beautiful their invitations came out. We love to make our couples happy and always want to create the perfect invitation for their big day!

If you had to give just one piece of advice to couples planning their wedding, what would it be? Don’t wait until the last minute to start your invitations. It’s never too early to start planning and have your design ready to go even if it’s not time to print yet. We advise you to have your invitations completed at least a few weeks before they need to be mailed. Stamping, stuffing, and sealing the envelopes takes time so it’s definitely better to be early rather than late!

What is something you are most proud of in your business? We are proud of how long we have been in business and the relationships we have built over the years. We love when our couples come back years later for birth announcements, birthday invitations and more! It’s humbling to know they appreciate our work and want us to continue to create items for them after their wedding day!
